What's Purring On?

Meet Jack and Coral

FPS has 2 new four legged friends in need of a very special home, together or separately. We had the shock of our lives this week when we evaluated them due to the concern that each cat had been drinking a very large amount of water. Diabetes, thankfully, is not common. Our chances of having 2 diabetic cats diagnosed on the very same day at FPS is probably as likely as getting struck by lightening!!! Meet "Jack", a mature adult cat that was surrendered to the SPCA and then there's "Coral". She was abandoned at the SPCA at a separate time!!! "Jack" and "Coral" are diabetic cats, as we found out this week and will require very loving, special homes willing to meet their medical needs. FPS started "Jack" and "Coral" on insulin this week.  "Coral" and "Jack" are hoping that FPS's kind friends will share their story, so perhaps someone will consider giving them a foster home, or better yet, a permanent place that they can make their own!! Please share their story, as they are in need of our help! They are up for adoption. Diabetic cats require diet modifications to help with their blood sugar regulation. They sometimes need prescription food and sometimes can do well with over the counter diets of certain types. Many require 2 times daily tiny insulin injections which they don't even feel. Mostly, they need good observation and loads of TLC--all which every cat should have. They sometimes lose their diabetic state and return normal with rapid initiation of the insulin we started them on. As like any diabetic, they are slightly more susceptible to infections diabetic management will likely require a minimum of 3 to 4 visits to the vet yearly. They may require blood testing periodically depending on how easily they are managed, their insulin may cost about $45 a month and their food may cost a bit more than the healthy cat diet blood testing can be done at home, if the owner elects to purchase a monitoring system for about $80. The blood testing in office will vary on how well the cat is being managed. There is no doubt that their is added cost for a diabetic cat's management but there is now doubt that they will repay their owner with mountains of love! Let us know if you are interested in meeting either one of these "Gems in disguise".They cannot live in a cage for long--reach out to your friends!!!! Please share "Coral's" story and  "Jack's" story so we can make the rest of their lives wonderful. They cannot live in a cage for long--reach out to your friends!!! Please call us to inquire about these special cats.

Affordable Spay &  Neuter Clinic

Let's make this a year to celebrate!! Let's help decrease the pet overpopulation issue one spay/neuter at a time. Sadly millions of cats and dogs are needlessly euthanized each year because there simply are not enough homes to share with them. In response to the continuing dog and cat overpopulation problem in our area and the lingering economic recession, FPS is now offering low-cost spay/neuter clinics. The cost for female cats is $60.00 and the cost for male cats is $25.00. The cost for female dogs less than 50# is $125.00, and the cost for female dogs over 50# is $165.00. The cost for male dogs less than 50# is $80.00 and male dogs over 50# is $95.00. Proof of current rabies vaccination is required. If there is no current rabies vaccine we can vaccinate the cat on the day of surgery at the cost of $10.00 per animal. All cats must be in a separate carrier for their safety and comfort. Please call to schedule appointments. We are booking two to three weeks in advance. Call to schedule your surgery appointment or if you wish further information. 745-1177
